It’s not my favorite shrub and I would never have planted it myself in this garden… but I have to admit that the color of Buddleia davidii “Black Knight” is simply splendid: a very dark and sumptuous purple with pink interiors. And it is a great favorite with bees and butterflies.
Buddleia normally blooms all summer, here its flowers last only to the end of June. Then it starts to suffer and dry up in the heat of summer. After the very long and hot summer of 2023 it seemed to have died completely and I cut it all the way down. But it grew back yet again in the spring, albeit staying a lot smaller than Buddleia usually grow: 150 cm instead of the usual 2-3 meters.
