A very pretty, cornflower-like flower in blue, lilac, or white with a blue middle, depending on variety.
Catananche caerulea supposedly blooms June through July, in my garden it blooms profusely all through May and then a little bit less in June. The flowers are followed by pretty transparent seedheads that stay on the plant for a long time.
Catananche caerulea is pretty drought-resistant with a Filippi “code de secheresse” of 4. I hardly ever water it and as a matter of fact, like many drought-resistant plants, it hates having wet feet. It needs a light, well-drained soil and there is a chance that it will re-seed itself in a good spot.
