Yellow flower of Oenothera parviflora or biennis in a Mediterranean garden

Oenothera

In the past three years I’ve not had much luck with the Oenothera I planted myself. Several plants of Oenothera missouriensis and Oenothera speciosa, reputed to be a vigorous if not invasive ground cover, died a few months after planting never to be seen again.

But, after I had totally given up on this plant, last summer an Oenothera parviflora/biennis (?) appeared all by itself and bloomed again and again from the end of July through the end of October – without minimal watering. I’m curious to see if it will establish itself and show up again next year.
