In May of 2024 I fell in love, madly and unhappily. Because this beautiful self-seeded visitor to my garden has never come back since and it is impossible to find seeds or plants to buy.
It seems to be so rare that there’s not even a Wikipedia-article on it. From what I can gather from various sources it is also known as Consolida orientalis/hispanica – Consolida being a member of the Delphinium genus. Delphinium orientale is similar to Delphinium ajacis but smaller and with deep purple flowers with shorter spurs.
It occurs naturally natural in some French Mediterranean and Midi regions and is reputed to be “quite rare and unstable in the Midi”. I can attest to that.
