One of my “darlings” and a somewhat misguided beginner’s purchase because Caryopteris is not really a drought-resistant plant. Filippi gives it a mere 2.5 on the drought-resistance scale. But so far it has turned out to be surprisingly tough and has survived less than ideal circumstances in my garden.
I planted it in March 2023 at the bottom of the embankment, in rather sun-exposed and dry soil. With some watering it held up bravely through the summer (though it didn’t grow) and even had a single flower in September.
Then it completely disappeared during the big garden re-do and I thought it must have been run over and killed by the digger. The next spring however it suddenly showed up again and I moved it into in the front part of the new “forest garden” where the slightly more demanding plants live. There it actually thrived and grew and had the most beautiful blue flowers in September and October. I am so happy!
